Five Valleys Holiday Cottages

Stable Cottage is situated on Avenis farm, adjacent to the Jacobean farmhouse and surrounded by woodland, streams, meadows, and a stocked fish pond which have barely altered for 300 years. A hundred years ago Stable Cottage housed shire horses to work the land in this secluded valley, leading down to the Golden Valley and which forms a perfect habitat for ducks, pheasants, deer, foxes and badgers. Today the fields are roamed by rare-breed 'Cotswold Lion' sheep that made this part of England rich in the Middle Ages. The long-legged lambs, born in March and April, are a delight to watch. While visitor’s dogs are welcome they must be fully controlled near the sheep and wildlife. Guests are encouraged to explore the farm and the many footpath walks in the area, though stout shoes or boots are recommended. One such cross-country walk leads directly to the pub and well-stocked shop in the nearby village of Oakridge. Vegetables, eggs and sheep meat are normally available for purchase from the farm according to season.
The shared swimming pool is heated and situated in a private enclosure fifty yards from the cottage. It can be used by arrangement with the owners of Avenis Farm between May 1st and August 31st. Normal safety precautions apply and, in particular, children using the pool must be supervised by an adult. Extra bathing towels are provided. AccommodationThe living room, with a wood-burning stove and a colour TV and DVD player, opens onto a conservatory and a well equipped kitchen. Also on the ground floor, off the kitchen, is a small utility area and the bathroom which has a shower over the bath. An open staircase from the living room leads to a double bedroom through which is the access to the twin bedroom. In addition, the sofa in the living room can be converted to a temporary double bed. The steps up to the front door and down to the kitchen mean that the cottage is not ideal for anyone who is severely handicapped. LocationBournes Green is a small hamlet near to the village of Oakridge (about one mile away). Oakridge has an excellent village shop and a pub which serves good food. Stroud, the main town, is five miles away with an excellent farmers' market on Saturdays as well as usual shops and supermarkets.
The cottage is available all year round, including winter weekends and short breaks.
Our normal weeks are from Saturday afternoon to Saturday morning the following week, but Friday changeovers may also be possible. The following prices apply for short breaks when available - based on the full-week price quoted above. Mid-week breaks are Monday-Friday, weekend breaks Friday-Sunday/Monday. Other days may be available by arrangement.
Prices shown in brackets are for each extra night, should this be required. Prices are for up to four adults sleeping and include bed linen and towels. A cot is available at no extra cost by prior arrangement. Prices include electricity and heating. 20% non-returnable deposit payable on booking, balance due six weeks before start date. No refunds can be made after the final payment becomes due. During summer high season (26 June - 27 August) a 20% discount may be offered for bookings within 6 weeks of the start date if the cottage will be used by one couple only (two adults sleeping - one bed).
